Today is November 6, 2019. My interview with Brad and Jonathan on the ChooseFI Episode 152 aired 2 days ago. My desire for this interview and, really every time I tell my story, is to help others in the same situation and give people hope. I have been overwhelmed and humbled by the reaction to my story!
I want to tell everyone who listened or watched, commented and subscribed to my blog WELCOME and THANK YOU!
My goal for this website is to provide a safe place to discuss our financial difficulties or hang-ups. After all, there aren’t many people in our lives we can talk to about money, right?
I also want to give folks a place to talk about what the Bible says about money. God has called us to be good stewards of our resources. This includes, but is not limited to our money. If we steward or manage our resources well, we are in a position to help others. Being generous brings a joy to our lives like nothing else will. We don’t give just to receive back, but I can tell you the giver is always blessed!
I’m going to start my posts with financial basics for anyone who is just starting to get a handle on their money. It will be finance 101 type info. Then I will be exploring other topics like our attitude about money and generosity. I also hope to discuss interesting life hacks, like travel rewards and frugal lifestyles.
I also have a Facebook page, Started At 50. Feel free to leave a comment or start a conversation there.
One again, THANKS and feel free to leave comment or start a conversation anytime. I’m excited about all of us doing this “FI Journey” together!
Till next time…
AWESOME interview on ChooseFI!!!! Love your story! Please keep sharing it.
Thanks, Kim! I appreciate the encouragement.
Well done guys, a positive message to inspire others.
Thanks so much, Simon
Hi Becky! I came across your interview on ChooseFI. It was very enlightened. Thank you for sharing your story and for opening this space to talk about finances… I am on the Dave Ramsey’s Baby Steps, completed step 1,2,3 and 5. I am 48 yrs old, single parent, live in NYC. Paid of my student loan and CC debt, my son graduated from college this year debt free…As I start BS 4, I felt I had lost some momentum when I got to the investment. I am still trying to understand the investment concept and how it works, at same, I wonder if I will be able to save enough money to retire. What is your advise base on your experience?
Encouraged by your story on the ChooseFI podcast especially from a biblical perspective. Excited to hear and learn more.
Thanks for your encouraging words. God has taken this on an amazing journey so far!
Great interview. Thanks for sharing your story!
Thanks, Eric! And thanks for the encouraging words!
Thanks for sharing your story, Becky. Ours is very similar, and it was very encouraging to hear! I’m also inspired to read A Simple Path to Wealth. What really blew my mind and my husband’s mind was the last bit about the racing hobby you share together. Would love to hear more!
Ann, Thanks for your comments and encouraging words!
We started driving on the track in 2012. My husband’s brother races for real! We enjoyed watching him as he was first learning and decided we could do it, too! Our oldest son races when he has the chance, our middle son has driven in the events that we participate in and our daughter is a great cheerleader, so it has become a family affair.
Loved the episode! Thank you so much for sharing your story. I hope they continue to have “late starters” periodically on the show.
VY, Thanks for checking out the website and for the encouraging words!
My husband and I just listened to your interview on ChooseFI and then listened to episode 152R where Big ERN goes over your numbers/case study. Both of these podcasts were very helpful, informative and encouraging and I wanted to thank you for sharing your story!! My husband and I will retire at 51 years old (which is coming up very soon!) and so we relate to your story especially the getting started with Dave Ramsey first and then moving towards FIRE as we learned more and leveraging a big shovel over a short period of time to make it happen. Looking forward to hearing more of your story and things you learn along the way! Thank you for being willing to share to benefit others!
Lori, Thanks for listening and thanks for the encouraging words! I wish you and your husband the best on your plans for retirement and your actual retirement! The info From DR and from the FI community has been a huge help for us. If you want check out my FB group Started At 50. It’s a place for us to have more conversations. Again, welcome!
Hi Becky! Just listened to your podcast. Thank you so much for sharing!!! You’ve been a tremendous help! God bless you and best of luck!
Laurie, Thanks so much for the kind words! Glad I could be of some help. Be sure to check out my FB group Started At 50. It’s a great place for faith based conversations. There is another FB group for the “more mature” LOL. It is FI After 50. Thanks again and God Bless!

great podcast. our financial situation is very similar to yours. we are 60 and hopefully plan to retire next year. quick question…..in the podcast you mention your spending needs are 80K . does that include tax expense and healthcare premiums? if so, how did you calculate the tax expense and healthcare premiums? Thanks..
Congrats on your upcoming reitrement! Yes, the 80K includes state and federal taxes, healthcare premiums of 1K/month, travel and our car hobby.
